Timing problems...or is it?

I have that 170 in my Mav right now. I found out the Vacuum control was boke so I put a new one on. Set the initial timing to 6 deg. BTDC. Now it retards like it supposed to but the specs say it should retard to 4-6 deggrees ATDC. But it goes from TDC to 4 ATDC. I figure since both retard and advance are vacuum controlled I may have a manifold leak. I think it's the Carb. The throttle venturii shaft seems to leak gas and probaly air. Tell me what you think.
