:quick and dirty way, look at the dist mounting area at the block. If it's almost flush with the part of the block where the intake manifold meets the block, it's a Cleveland, If it's about a 1" high it's a Modified. Similiar two the way a 302 and 351W difference is.
There's other differences but you have to get into the engine to tell them. Casting numbers are good if you can get to them, just post the first four of them.
I had asked this question yesterday, not realizing that the board would be taken down today, so i'm just going to ask again (because i need to know so i can grab this engine!):
: What are some basic differences to look for to spot the difference between a 351C and a 351M? This is a 2bbl that i've found, runs great doesn't burn oil, but the tag is worn off...i can't tell if it's a cleveland or an M!
