: Once you change all that stuff, you'll have a 16:1 ratio box. Depending on your preference, this may be too low a ratio for manual steering. The Maverick manual steering box is 22:1! This is way too much. If you do change it I'd look for a Fairlane manual steering box that is 19:1. Seems like a good compromise. -CP

: : : I'm going to swap in a 5.0 for my 250. the car has power steering which i want to condemn because it leaks and i really prefer manual steering anyway. what do i need to do to remove the power components and make it manual?
: : That's the best move you can make! The power steering sucks on these cars! You could replace everything & it might still leak. The major difference between the two is the PITMAN ARM. Its longer than the power steering one & the Tapper is also different. The best way to start is new with these cars. New drag-link, inner-outer tie rod ends & upper & lower ball joints & a idler arm for good messure. Believe me this is the best way to go here.
I have a 72' 302 V8 and I (my ex) have changed the power steering pump twice and I have constantly had to add power steering fluid. If I chane mine to manual steering, how will that effect the steering? A lot? A little? Right now I can turn corners steering with my pinky. I suppose that would change. Right?
