Yeah, I hung on to that mag article too, we duplicated it on my brothers '79 shortbed 4x4 1/2 ton, and it hauled ass!!
and that's with the 2bbl heads, if you were to put some 4bbl heads on a 400, it would run really good, cuz usually 4bbl heads are too big for 351's,

400's need good flat top pistons too raise the comp. (that, and the fact that they were smog motors made them dogs) Then get some intake adapters($100) so you can bolt a good 351c intake to the wider 400.
You might have some problems fitting it between the shock towers of the mav, however.


: .....Hot Rod Magazine had an article which took a boneyard 400 & pulled 375 lb-ft torque at 2000 rpm & 400hp 456lb-ft torque at 4400 rpm for $2000. Not too shabby for a dog motor. I have one of these motors in my Bronco, thats why I hung on to the article.
