: Sunday I started to put my big cam in, then low and behold...
: 2 cam bearings came out with my old cam. The 302 is now history as I have
: a reason to get off my ass and yank it out now. I am working a deal out
: for a 4 bbl. Cleveland and should have it by this weekend. I should (with
: any luck, and I'm short on it...) have my shock towers notched this coming
: Saturday. I'm having as much meat as possible cut out. Let's see, I think
: I'll have to ditch the power steering (a good thing) and use a floor shift,
: that about sum it up? I also gutted the bumber and mount already (I think
: that knocked 80 pounds off the front), and will have the battery in the
: trunk tomorrow night if I get the parts in time. Will I have to use
: custom headers with the towers notched, or will the stock manifolds work
: for now? I'm hoping they will for a few months, but if not I'll order a
: set of headers from Total Performace, and who else has them? I need to
: get Total Performance's email addy and or phone number also if anybody
: has it. I'm drooling already. I bet my stock 2.75 8 inch will die a ungodly
: dealth soon, so I'll have to find the proper 9 inch I guess...

4bbl cleveland eh?....
im glad you have a lightweight vehicle to put it in. yes, your 8 inch rear end will have to go, and if you have anything less than a 3:50 rear gear, you can count on it being a low end dog.
i have owned several clevelands, and by far the fastest was a modified 2V. those 2.19 intakes on the 4V will kill any low end torque. however, its awesome once you get the rpms coming on.
even the 2V's are spongy on the low end.
i highly recommend you put a stall speed in it. the cleveland needs to breathe and it has a hard time at low rpms. a 4:11 gear is actually perfect. if you can get rid of some of your accessories such as AC and power steering, it will help out too.
my 4V cleveland powered mustang would not even burn rubber, but after about 3000 rpms, it was real strong. however, if you have to wait untill 3000 rpms before your power kicks in, you wont win many races. (usually, if i stomped it from a dead stop, it would flood out and die. i had 3:00 gears)
a cleveland is more of a horsepower motor than torque. be sure you know what you are doing when hot rodding a cleveland. you need to create some velocity or you may end up with a dog. a cleveland actually breathes too well for most street applications.
