: changing axles is usually a save change out, make sure and check the axle length, they may have made it just a little longer or shorter. Not always just another thing you have to check. all are 28 spline and usually they all used the same bearing, But not always. Same year axles it pretty safe, odd years, you never know. As far as the axle ratio, go to a 4.11. In over drive it'll be a 2.80 rearend. Don't use the variable lifters. You have a very mild cam already. don't bring it down anymore. unless you mean 242 degs at .050" lift at the intake side. Then that's allot of cam. to much for the street even with variable lifters

I found 5 lug spindles from a 4-door Maverick. Can I take the spindles off the back axle? Do I have to trade axles? The brakes look shot somewhat on the back. Can I rebuild them? The front spindles will have disc brakes on them. Has anybody installed an electric fan setup? Did it draw alot current? The guys at the 'yard are actaully really good mechanics and offered to set me up with AOD. They have good prices so I think I'll leave it to them. I'm going for a 250-6 with an AOD for good mileage and maybe a 3.55 to 3.00 final gear(still thinking about it). 242 duration cam with variable lifters(-20 degrees) for good passenger car performance.
