My dad has a '97 Toyota T-100 with a V-6. He's gets about 21 mpg towing a 3500 lbs Camping trailer, on the highway. It pulls on the engine pretty hard when you start climbing a steep hill, but it will make it. Obviosly your not gonna get great gas millage with a big block V-8. I would rent a 6 cylinder truck or van. It might be a little hard on the engine, but it belongs to a rental place anyway, and cost alot less in gas.
: 85 Ford Van, 351W HO, towed my dads car to Columbus, got about 11, EFI might get 15, but that's pushing it. Econoline's EPA figure is only 18 hwy with the 4.6L, that is not towing either. He has a point about the milage, though, It might be cheaper to rent a van, even cheaper to borrow one! -CP
: : I have a 1988 Ford Truck with a 351W. When I pull my Maverick...I get 10 mpg. I don't think a van could double that.

: : : Better yet, buy a trailer, it would be nice to have anyway, and shouldn't be to expensive if you get one used. And the go rent a Econoline or something....You could sleep in the van confortably, eat truck stop food, and it would be alot cheaper than a U-Hall or a Ryder. They have terrible gas millage, and they charge you an arm and a leg for milage. With the van, millage would be cheap, and you'd probably get around 20 miles a gallon, even with the mav behind you.
: : : : There is a huge ford show at knotts in early april, prolly the 8th, that would be cool! Just a thought...
