:first off change your fuel filter every other oil change or no more then 12K miles, try that first. since you didn't say total miles, your problem might be the turbo itself. what color is the smoke it puts out when you give it throttle and at max (3300rpms) might not be putting out enough air from the turbo. Is this a add on turbo or the factory one? Some 7.3s has turbos put on them later and not from the factory, that's why the power stroke diesel has the turbo from the factory. If it's a add on the injectors probably aren't big enough to handle the extra air the turbo is pumping. That's why it won't get to 3700 rpms.
Thanks for the respond. The problem is the engines dies at around 3300 rpm its acts like someone put a hand over the intake and kills the air. It will idle but if you give it throttle it just smokes really bad. If I shut it off and restart it is fine unless I hit 3300 rpm again .It runs fine other wise. I bought it used and at the time the rpm's would go higher (3700 or so) and run up against the govener.I don't normally turn it that hard but would like to fix the problem. I changed the fuel filter and the air filter about 20k miles ago. IT is a K&N and it was cleaned and reoiled. Turbo is a Banks Sidewinder. Any help ? You can e-mail if you want to save the board space. Thanks again.Russ
