: well, for those of you who remember last month's board... the problem i was having with the engine locking up when i tightened the bell housing bolts turned out to be because of the flexplate.
: i have a 5.0HO with the 50oz balance. so i got a FMS C4 50oz flexplate, however the 50oz weight is so big that it hits the trans/block spacer plate. the way i see it, my options are (1) run without the spacer, or (2) use washers behind the flexplate(not sure if this is a good idea)
: please advise me accordingly, those that have encountered this sort of thing.
: on another note, did 351W's change in the form of pulleys thru the years? Still have to buy a harmonic damper for an engine that is far away from me(can't look at it to tell). did they have 3 and 4 bolt pulleys? or are they all one and the same?
: thanks,

Don't use washers behind the flex plate, just take out the spacer. Have run several engines without it, no problem. But you have to check to make sure the converter has enough lateral movement. If I remember right the spacer is around 1/32nd thick, this should still leave enough lateral with it out. Of course different trans, blocks, etc. will effect this. So be sure and check clearance before firing up the engine.
