: Jonathan, To add one more possibility for consideration in using the 400; my info source says (barring some unforseen problems)that a 1973 400 from a full size Ford with the (FMX trans) has the same bolt pattern as the 351c engine suggesting that a C4,AOD or man. trans could be used. Then you only have to hassel with the spring tower problems.
Of course the added weight has to be delt with by using much higher rate front springs, roll bar etc. Often I feel that a drag car powered by a much heavier engine that can't be moved backward hurts the front to rear weight ratio to much and causing traction problems off the line. The better way to minimize this is a lighter mill enlarged in displacement.
The 351w can be taken out to near 390 getting away from some of the undesirables.
Good luck what ever you decide.
