There are some owners on the board that have changed over to the AOD trans.
Here are some of the items to be aware of. The mount needs to be altered, drive shaft may need to be shortened some, the flywheel used,and a control cable from the carbed Mustang /Thunderbird (called a TV cable needs to be used and connected to your carb linkage so the trans pressure changes with throttle opening. This is MUST.
As for the trans, the 85 to about 93 in the PU,cars etc are not electric control. The overdrive feature is internal to the input drive part of the trans.
The trans can be obtained in modified form with positive shift controls and elimination of the lockup feature if desired. There are hi performance converters available.
I'm sure some of the other guys will weigh in and give more info.
