The ones you took out are of the positive stop type and would not be good for performance cam use.
The performance type usually require some metal be milled off the pads, threaded and use of water sealant on the threads then torqued to about 40 ft/lbs.
These studs allow full adjustment of valve lash should a performance cam be installed. The reason milling is done is to allow for the thickness of pushrod
guide plates when (non) rail type replacement rocker arms are used. There is no magic in this, just have them follow the instruction if there a shop that
knows what there doing. Also there are what is known as (street screw-in)found in the JEGs catalog if they may be of interest. No milling reguired.
