JC, additinal info that may help you decide. I am using a heavier bar and 4 leaf rear springs from J.C.Whitney and they made a world of difference in handling.
On heating a bar to make it fit, i don't recommend it be done for this reason. The bar when manufactured is done under a controlled heat treatment proess that gives
it the tough torsion spring action without twisting or bending.
Further, depending how much carbon content in the steel the cooling process must be closely controled as cooling to fast will cause brittleness and loss of the torsion
spring characterisitic to be lost and possible breakage,on cooling to slow will cause the metal in that area to go soft and bend-twist.
The mfg. process often cools in an oil coolant that treats the metal in between these two extremes.
