For a basically stock 302, you don't need any more than maybe 500 cfm. However, since 600 cfm models are so much more common (read:cheaper) I'd go with a 600. Then when you upgrade your ride more you'll still have a carb to keep up. I like Holley carbs myself, its more of a personal preference if you go with a vaccuum secondary carb. It's pretty much a concensus that a double-pumper Holley is better than an Edelbrock, but they are real pricey. It took me awhile to save up for mine, but it makes a big difference performance wise. I use a Weiand Stealth Intake, It was a big improvement over my Edelbrock. It makes power from idle-6800 rpm, while the Edelbrock performer RPM makes power from 1500-or-so to 6500.
My opinion on intakes is to get the latest design out there. With all the improvements in computer design recently they are bound to make more power than an older design. The Weiand Stealth is a couple years old, but newer than the Performer Series. Edelbrock has a new 'Air Gap' intake that surely is a great design too. I'd go with the Weiand Stealth or the 'Air Gap'.-CP
: Okay,... since i figured out how to get the conversion for my distributor (it was unanimous: POINTS SUCK) next question is... this: Holley 700carb or Edelbrock 700carb or some other brand of carb? okay so its more than one question. What kind of intake should i get to go along with the carb. And as for headers... what size/brand/style work good? 302 v8 with the stock 2bbl for now.. gotta upgrade though. Thanks guyz.
